A former employee allegedly went on a shooting rampage at a Mississippi Walmart early Tuesday, leaving at least two employees dead and a police officer injured after an exchange of fire, according to local reports.
Police were called to reports of an active shooter at the store in Southaven near Memphis at at 6:40 a.m., according to authorities.
Two people, both understood to be employees, were found dead, one inside the store and one in a parking lot, according to Fox13.
A cop who exchanged gunfire with the suspect was hit, with early reports suggesting he was saved by his bulletproof vest. His injuries are not thought to be life-threatening, according to BNO.
The suspect, reportedly an employee, was taken to hospital after being shot twice in the gun battle, WREG reported.
Witnesses said he was a disgruntled former employee, according to BNO and WREG, although that has not been confirmed by authorities.
Staff were shown hugging, crying and holding hands outside the store amid a massive police presence there.
